Calum Munro
I’m a Psychotherapist, which means I’m a specialist in ‘talking therapies’. I trained as a doctor and then a psychiatrist, specialising in psychotherapy. I have 20 years’ experience of mental health care in the NHS, over 10 years as a Consultant Psychiatrist. I only provide talking therapies now as I believe this is how I can help people best, so I no longer practise as a doctor or psychiatrist.
I first trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but I now use Schema Therapy (ST) in which I am an advanced practitioner, for most of the work I do. I have experience and training in therapy for people with Trauma, Personality Disorders, Psychosis, Anxiety Disorders and Depression. I’ve worked a lot with people with Eating Disorders. I’ve done a bit of research, which you can look up here if you want to.
Making you feel comfortable and developing a real connection with you is at the core of how I work. I think having personal experience of mental health problems helps me empathise with what my clients are struggling with.
Bikepacking cycling is also a big thing in my life which led me to setting up a small cycling charity.

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with nearly 30 years of experience working in the NHS. Over the past decade, I have worked in a number of senior positions but am now returning my focus both within the NHS and privately to the work I personally find most fulfilling: providing quality psychological care to individuals wishing to make meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, the effects of early-life trauma, and longer-term emotional or relational challenges. I am trained in several evidence-based approaches, including Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and draw on these to create an individualised approach.
I understand that everyone’s experiences are different, so I take time to get to know you and what matters to you. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we will work together to understand the links between your thoughts, feelings, experiences, relationships and physical wellbeing. From there, we can agree on a plan that feels right for you.
Alongside my clinical work, I provide formulation-based supervision for Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Therapists and offer reflective practice, consultation and training to organisations seeking to develop trauma-informed, inclusive workplaces that support staff and promote wellbeing.
In my own time, I can usually be found out on a hill with my dog.
